Ucla San Fernando Valley Psychiatry Residency Program
Dear Applicant,
It brings me great pleasure to welcome you to the UCLA-Olive View Internal Medicine Residency Program. We are delighted that you are considering our program for your training in internal medicine and would like to highlight a few features of our program:
After receiving her Medical Degree from the Moscow Medical Institute, Dr. Lavretsky performed her residency in Psychiatry at UCLA-San Fernando Valley Residency Program, followed by the UCLA Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry, and the national VA Research Fellowship in Neurosciences. Geriatric Psychiatry Psychiatry Department Affiliation: Psychiatry. - Patient care: Olive View residents care for a young, diverse, underserved, and appreciative patient population that often presents with undifferentiated pathology. From your first day as an intern, you will be at the forefront in discovering their diagnoses and guiding their management. In the outpatient setting, residents enjoy nearly 80% continuity with their primary care patients, a feature essential for both resident training and patient outcomes. You will have the pleasure of working in a multi-disciplinary team with a dedicated staff who are committed to our underserved population.
- Teaching: We are proud of our dedication to education at every training level. Third-year UCLA medical students have rated the inpatient medicine ward clerkship at Olive View as one of the top UCLA training sites for over a decade, a result of our strong commitment to teaching. Our interns and senior residents actively engage in the learning and teaching process with multimedia modules and simulation curriculum, in addition to day-to-day clinical care.
- Scholarship: Many of our residents publish peer-reviewed articles, Medscape content and abstracts in ACP/SGIM meetings every year. We are also active in advocacy, participating every year in ACP’s Sacramento and Washington DC Leadership days.
- Location: Olive View serves a population of over 2 million people in northern LA County, larger than most cities in the US. We are located against traffic from almost any direction. Residents enjoy all that LA has to offer including incredible weather, beautiful scenery, entertainment, and restaurants.
We welcome applicants who are interested in seeing the wide breadth of pathology that a county hospital can offer while steeping themselves in a culture of education and academic pursuit. Our excellent placement in competitive fellowships and the active recruitment of our graduates into general medicine and hospitalist practices attest to the level of excellence our graduates attain after training with us. Those who join us for an interview will see the collegiality and vibrancy of our program firsthand.
Feel free to contact us at (747) 210-3205 or email us at medicine@uclaoliveview.org for any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Laxmi Suthar, MD
